Adherencia al tratamiento en asma. Situación actual

Resumen


El término adherencia según la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) es el grado en que el comportamiento de una persona — tomar el medicamento, seguir una dieta o ejecutar cambios de estilo de vida — se corresponde con las recomendaciones acordadas con un técnico de asistencia sanitaria. La pobre adhesión terapéutica representa un problema de salud pública ya que se comunica que tan solo el 50% de los pacientes con enfermedades crónicas tienen un adecuado cumplimiento, cifras que se incrementan cuando se analizan enfermedades respiratorias que precisan de un tratamiento inhalado, como el asma o la Enfermedad Pulmonar Obstructiva Crónica (EPOC), lo que repercute sobre la calidad de vida e incrementa el gasto sanitario. De los hechos expuestos se desprende la necesidad de disponer en la práctica clínica habitual de instrumentos para reconocer, cuantificar y seguir la evolución en el tiempo de la adherencia en cada paciente, con el objetivo de establecer las intervenciones oportunas en cada paciente.
